FromMartin Ederhard and Marc Tarpenning conceiving and founding Tesla in 2003, tothe Model 3 unveil in 2016, Tesla has been monumental in disrupting the automotive industry.

While it may seem hard to believe, Elon Musk was not one of the original founders of the company. He led the Series A funding in 2004, joining the board of directors as its chairman as well as in operational roles.

Tesla launched its IPO on NASDAQ in 2010. The IPO raised $226 million.

No one can debate Tesla's status as an innovator, but questions still abound whether it can successfully mass produce an electric vehicle. TheStreet's Eric Jhonsa breaks down Tesla's most recent struggles.[1]
