Dezmond Love flashed a smile and delivered an emphatic double high five to his principal Friday morning. For the Eastside Elementary School first-grader, Christmas had come early.Love was one of 30 Eastside students selected in a drawing to take home a new bicycle and helmet donated by Academy Sports and Outdoors in Dalton.“I was excited (when they called my name)!” Love said, after checking out the new wheels.In total, 15 boys and 15 girls — two different designs of bikes were provided — were surprised with the gifts.“I was happy (to receive the bike),” second-grade student Ashley Cano said. “It is my first bicycle.”Friday marked the second consecutive year for Academy to provide bikes to the school as part of a national program to give back to local communities.“We want to give back to the community, because it’s the community that supports us,” said Steve Bullard, store manager for Academy Sports and Outdoors in Dalton, who was on hand for the giveaway. “Communities make us who we are.
