CHATTANOOGA SYMPHONY & OPERA OPENS SEASON WITH 'SHOSTAKOVICH & RACHMANINOFF' - CHATTANOOGA TIMES FREE PRESS

Chattanooga Symphony & Opera opens its 87th season Thursday night, Sept. 26, with "Shostakovich & Rachmaninoff," featuring guest artist Andrew Tyson. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. in the Tivoli Theatre, 709 Broad St. Guest pianist Tyson will perform Sergei Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3, considered one of the greatest and most challenging piano concertos of its time. The concert will also include Shostakovich's melancholic and introspective Symphony No. 6 and American composer Emma Lou Diemer's "Homage to Tchaikovsky." "We are thrilled to open our 2019-20 season with exciting works such as Emma Lou Diemer's 'Homage to Tchaikovsky' and two magnificent works by Russian composers Shostakovich and Rachmaninoff," said Kayoko Dan, CSO music director. "Shostakovich will highlight many musicians of the orchestra, notably flute, oboe, bassoon and E-flat clarinet. Rachmaninoff's romantic and technically challenging Piano Concerto No. 3 will feature internationally renowned young pianist Andrew Tyson," she said The CSO will also honor the memory of its late bass trombonist, Michael Carver, during the concert.
